After the mighty
defeat
of the prophets of Baal, there was yet another challenge Elijah faced. The
prophets of Baal only represent the branches of the tree of the knowledge of
good
and evil. Jezebel, for all intensive purposes, as a queen, represents the root
of defilement of & in the carnal state of mind. Unless the axe is laid at the
root of this evil consciousness, it can still hold us in the bondage of fear.
And we see this manifest itself through the prophet Elijah. Fear put him on the
run for his life. But it caused him to seek a refuge. In verse three he leaves
his servant behind because sometimes we have to go a little further, apart,
and alone.
1Kings 19:4 But he himself went a day's journey (I see this as into the
day of
the Lord) into the wilderness (where Jesus was also driven to answer His final
questions within Himself as to His destiny as the Son of God) and came and sat
down under a juniper tree. And he requested for himself that he might die: and
he said, It is enough: now, 0 Lord, take away my life, for I am not better that
my fathers.
Many times after long seasons of tremendous battles, we grow battle weary and
self-pity can come upon us. And this may cause us to say to ourselves the same
things our enemies are saying as to make an alliance with death. Yet through it
all, because we are the called according to His purpose, we can only find a
resting-place under the umbrella of His Word. The juniper tree is a type of
evergreen tree that is able to live through all seasons; this is a living word
rooted and grounded that he chose to sit under. vs. 5 And as he lay and slept
under a juniper tree, behold, then an angel touched him, and said unto him,
Arise, and eat. vs. 6 And he looked, and behold, there was a cake-baked on the
coats, and a cruse of water at his head. And he did eat and drink and laid
down again, vs. 7 And an angel of the Lord came eat; because the journey is too
great for you. vs. 8 And he rose, and did eat and drink, and went in the
strength of that meat forty days and forty nights unto Horeb the mount of God.
The Lord, in His mercy, will not only allow you to but will cause you to rest.
He will send resurrecting messages through anointed men and women of God that
will impart to you of the bread of the Word by the water of the Spirit. And
after many battles you are looking for the truth that will sustain you, not
only to give you hope, but strengthen you with might in the inner man. This
will cause you to journey that you may follow on to know the Lord in a more
elevated way. Then He can impart to you a furtherance of His plans for
salvation of the nation of Israel and the world. vs. 9 And he came thither unto
a cave, and lodged there; and behold, the Word of the Lord came to him, and He
said unto him, What doest thou here, Elijah? vs. 10 And he said, I have been
very jealous for the Lord God of hosts; for the children of Israel have
forsaken Thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain Thy prophets with
the sword;
and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.
vs.11 And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the Lord.
And behold, the Lord passed by and a great strong wind rent the mountains, and
brake in pieces the rocks before the Lord; but the Lord was not in the wind;
and after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake;
vs.12 And after the earthquake, a fire; but the Lord was not in the
fire.. This
was all the contemplation going on in the recesses of his mind (cave) tearing
down every thing there that was a vain imagination there. ..After the fire a
still small voice, vs.13 And it was so, when Elijah heard it, that he
wrapped
his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entering in of the cave.
And, behold, there came a voice unto him, and said, What doest thou here,
Elijah? At the point of hearing the still small voice of the Holy Spirit he
could come forth into a state of Christ consciousness.
And from that stance he could be prepared to have answered the questions that
remained upon his own heart. He then could receive explicit instructions for
the furtherance of the call not only for his destiny but the liberation of
Israel. vs.15 And the Lord said unto him, Go, return on your way to the
wilderness of Damascus: and when you comest, anoint Hazael to be king over
Syria: vs.16 And Jehu the son of Nimshi shall you anoint to be king over
Israel: and Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abelmeholah shall you anoint to be
prophet in your room. vs.17 And it shall come to pass, that him that
escapes
the sword of Hazael shall Jehu slay: and him that escapes from the sword of
Jehu shall Elijah slay. These instructions were given in order to anoint the
new dispensation of warriors. Christ is establishing His throne of
righteousness in the earth.
We are being given the authority of God to totally defeat the enemies of our
lives and that that opposes His mindset in the world. We will find not only
that He is establishing all things after the counsel of His will but there are
others who love His call. They are prepared in their hearts to receive more of
His Word to fulfill their destiny. In later chapters we see that because of the
obedience of Elijah, he is taken up into the heavens in a chariot of fire. His
mantle falls with a double portion blessing upon Elisha who will bring forth
more order in Israel in the name of the Lord. Then, the next time we see Elijah
is upon the mount of transfiguration with Jesus and Moses representing all the
realms of the prophets. I pray that you would be blessed and prosper in your
hearts in the words of these writings.
