We begin with a conclusion
- that God desires a dwelling place in this world. So, "In the beginning
God created the heaven and the earth." Genesis 1:1
The creation does not exist
on its own. If God did not create it and maintain its existence - it would
utterly cease, "For by Him were all things created, that are in heaven,
and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones,
or dominions, or principalities, or powers: All things were created by
Him, and for Him: And He is before all things, and by Him all things hold
together and have their proper place." Colossians 1:16-17
As we serve God and express
Him by the Spirit we reveal the intention of God. We show that the world
does not exist for itself, but to become a dwelling place for God. It
is our commitment to make of the world a dwelling place for God. God has
always been revealing His intention through a people.
Isaiah 43:10-13 "You are
my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servants whom I have chosen: that
you may know and believe me, and understand that I am He: before me there
was no God formed, neither shall there be after me. I, even I, am the
LORD; and beside me there is no Savior. I have declared, and I have saved,
and I have showed, when there was no strange god among you: therefore
you are my witnesses, that I am God - saith the LORD. Yea, before the
day was I am He; and there is none that can deliver out of my hand: I
will work, and who shall stop it?"
It is intended that Heaven
and earth be joined in us, His servants. God has always sought a dwelling
place, therefore three realities are joined together: God, His Word and
His people. We have to move beyond the idea that the physical and the
spiritual are essentially opposed or hostile to one another.
We have to continue to demonstrate
that God is able to relate even to the physical, that God can encompass
also that which appears inherently distant from Him. God being Omnipotent
has produced that which is infinite as well as that which is finite.
Creation demonstrates God's
capacity to produce the finite. God created all and is continually interested
in all of existence. Though God is transcendent and beyond full human
comprehension, to declare that He is too great to be involved with any
aspect of human existence runs contrary to our basic faith. Our faith
emphasizes God's total dominion over all...and God's concern with the
acts of people on earth. It is contrary to our understanding to maintain
that God relates to the good and not to the bad, to happiness but not
to pain, to our thoughts and emotions but not to our body, to prayer,
but not to ordinary physical activity. His thoughts are not our thoughts
and His ways are not our ways but He knows our thoughts and determines
our ways in order that our thoughts and ways become more perfectly related
to Him and reveal Him. Jesus Christ, through His body, removed the last
barrier to total oneness with God. In Jesus Christ the perception of reality
from God's side, does not exclude the finite and the physical. In Jesus
Christ, we recognize that all of creation not only comes from God or relates
to Him, but also is meant to be one with Him.
John 1:1-4 "In the beginning
was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same
was in the beginning with God. All things were made by Him; and without
Him was not any thing made that was made. In Him was life; and the life
was the light of men."
"Having made known unto
us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure that He has
purposed in Himself. That in the dispensation of the fullness of times
He might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in
heaven, and which are on earth; even in Him: In whom also we have obtained
an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who
works all things after the counsel of His own will." Ephesians 1:9-11)
We are living in the day that
we believe God is setting up His kingdom to be seen on earth. The kingdom
that God has promised is an eternal kingdom, with Christ as King. God
has dealt to each of us the measure of faith so that we might participate
in manifesting the world to come. That is God's intention.
1 Corinthians 8:6 "For
to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we
in Him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him."
The world was created for the purpose of Jesus Christ, to create a habitation
where God's desire for a dwelling in the world will be realized. There
is not any question that this purpose and this desire will be consummated.
God has engaged us in the fulfillment of this purpose, enabling us to
become partners in creation and co-laborers with Christ.
We enjoy the opportunity to
reveal God in this world. Our divine service, expressing the Spirit of
Jesus Christ that is within us - in the present time - requires diligent
labor. We keep our hands on the plow. Remember: "God is faithful,
by whom we were called unto the fellowship of His Son Jesus Christ our
Lord. 1 Corinthians 1:9 The Lord is faithful, who shall establish
you, and keep you from evil. 2 Thessalonians 3:3 "Let us therefore,
hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; for He is faithful
that promised." Hebrews 10:23
